These Ruts Get Deep

Words and Music by Forrest (Butch) Castetter
Copyright 2006

Tom came home from the Iraq war
Every emotion was tattered and torn
He tried to drink his pain away
Everyday for the next two years
His wife cried a bucket of tears
He promised he would change.
Then one day out of the blue
Tom decided he was though with the booze
He knew it's time for a change

These ruts we dig sometimes get deep
Fail to move and you're bound to sink
Once you get moving you can't slow down
But a week seems like forever when you're trying to dig out

For some reason no one can explain
Heather started using crack cocaine
This tragic story begins
Her mom took her back to court and won
She lost everything including her son
But God answers prayers
She's now clean

Dive Right In

Words and Music by Forrest (Butch) Castetter
Copyright 2006

When I was a kid, I didn't know how to swim
Afraid of the water, scared to get in
When all my friends would go down to the pool
I'd stand on the edge and feel like a fool

The water's great, so come on in
It's a wonderful day to go for a swim.
It's a pitiful life watching everyone else
So put all your worries aside and dive right in

In high school I didn't know how to dance
Looking for love and a little romance
All the girls would be out on the floor
I'd sit in my chair and act like a bore

When I was young I played guitar
Had big dreams of being a star
But every time I'd get on stage
Man my knees would tremble and shake

Please Call Me

Words and Music by Forrest (Butch) Castetter
Copyright 2006

It's 5:00 am on Monday, he's up and out of bed
Carefully he looks at job postings on the web
Please call me; I can start to work today
He's waiting by the phone but the phone will not ring

He's got a wife, a home and mortgage, two kids still in school
Never let them see you sweat, he tries to keep his cool
Please call me; I can start to work today
He's waiting by the phone but the phone will not ring

It's agonizing, demoralizing, making him a mess
All this rejection is getting him depressed
Please call me Please call me

It's 3:00 PM on Wednesday, the middle of week five
He hasn't showered, hasn't shaved, he's got an upset wife
Please call me: I can start to work today
He's waiting by the phone but the phone will not ring

Chewing on the wallpaper and gnashing on his teeth
Racking anxiety is keeping him from sleep
He's done all that he can do and nothing seems to work
His mind keeps on wondering and imaging the worst

Sun's Got to Come Up

Words and Music by Forrest (Butch) Castetter
Copyright 2006

Everybody gets a little lonely
Everyone gets their chance to cry
Well this might be my turn
Though I don't understand why

But it's just a little set back
Just a little pain
Just a little bump on the road

But the suns got to come up sometime
But just when I don't know

Wish I could find someone to blame this on
How that everything kinda just fell out
I know that I will smile again
But there are days I have my doubt

Tell Me Some Good News

Words and Music by Forrest (Butch) Castetter
Copyright 2006

I watched the evening news today
Impending doom on its way
Woke up this morning feeling glad
Turned off the tube I felt so sad
Someone has been shot
On the near north side
There on the scene is news team live at five
With the victim's mother, Ma'am how does that make you feel?

Tell me some good news
I need some good news
Tell me some good news, today

I watched the evening news today
Investigation's under way
The city schools have all been sold
We're saving millions we've been told
The winning bid was a foreign company
Questions asked about consulting fees
And some director that paid his family

Dancin' With The Angels

Words and Music by Forrest (Butch) Castetter
Copyright 2005

John and Becky got married back in forty-three
They lived their lives together in the hills of Tennessee
Two years later, they had a baby
A little girl and put ribbons in her hair they named her Katie Leigh
Katie Bug they called her, she had big bright eyes
What a smile, she was such a delight

Saturday mornings, they'd drive into town
Katie talked to everyone that came around
"Do you wanna see me dance?" she'd always say
I'm gonna be a dancer when I grow up someday

Dancing like an angel
Dancing with her feet off the ground
Dancing like an angel
Danced like an angel with her feet off the ground

One frozen morning as they drove into town
The truck crashed, Katie laid on the ground
Her life was fading as John did pray
Dear God please don't take her away
Then Katie's eyes opened wide
Her face glowed with the light

Katie says that late at night
When the skies are clear and the moon is bright
If you look up in the heavens way up high
You can see angels dancing in the moonlight

Someone Beat the Odds

Words and Music by Butch Castetter
Copyright 2006

Mary dropped out of school, at seventeen
Ran off and married Stan, start a family
But her dream never died, to teach school one day
And at thirty-three, she got her Masters degree
Well, what do you know?

Everyone has their calling
To what they're meant to be
And it's those dreams we share
That determines reality
Those who would dare to dream
Bring sweetness to our souls
Someone beats the odds
Someone else says
Well, what do you know?

Bob worked really hard, living check to check
Did jobs on the side, try to get ahead
His dream never died, to control his destiny
And at forty-three, he bought the company
Well, what do you know?

She's Good Lookin'

Words and Music by Forrest (Butch) Castetter
Copyright 2005

Mom said if you can't say anything nice,
say nothing at all
Mom sure would be proud of me for the
way I'm standing tall
I've watched this girl for several years;
I think I know her well
I've been friends with all the men that
have fell under her spell
And when they ask me what I think,
this is what I say

She's good lookin'
She's good lookin'
She's good lookin'
That's all I'm gonna say

Other people when they talk about her,
they say such awful things
Not me I just nod my head and say,
oh what a shame
She makes lots of enemies she
makes more everyday
A lot of them are my friends,
I hear about their pain
And when they ask me what I think,
this is what I say

You can put my hand in a pot of boiling
water but my lips are sealed
You can put bamboo under my fingernails
but I'll never tell
How does anyone with no ambition always
get her way?
And when they ask me what I think,
this is what I say

Hey Big Brother

Words and Music by Forrest (Butch) Castetter
Copyright 2006

Sitting at my desk working on my PC
Big brother's there he's got his eye on me
In my car at the traffic light
Big brother's camera got me in his sight
The coffee shop is my social scene
Big brother knows that I don't use cream

Hey Big Brother leave me alone
Do me a favor stay out of my home
Hey Big Brother leave me alone
Do me a favor stay off of my phone

Big brother knows who I voted for
The size of my shoes and my thoughts on the war
Big brother knows everywhere that I've been
I asked him why he said that would depend
I asked Big Brother who invited him
Big Brother said that he is my friend
I asked Big Brother who his employer would be
Big Brother says that he's working for me

I've got a strange feeling about this

The Ides of March

Words and Music by Forrest (Butch) Castetter
Copyright 2006

Beware the ides of March
Beware the ides of March
The eyes reveal what's in the heart
Et Tu Brute, my old friend

And we all play a part in a Shakespeare play
The names and faces change
But the story stays the same

I swear that I didn't see it coming
I swear that I thought you were my friend
May take a while to recover
May never trust the same again

When the Ides of March come early, feel it in the air
Treachery is all around, you first become aware
Someone will get hurt, you want to help you should
Change the role you're playing, from bad to good

Betrayal is the darkest sin
Malicious pain spreads within
A guilty conscience won't let go
Broken faith stains the soul
