These Ruts Get Deep
Words and Music by Forrest (Butch) Castetter
Copyright 2006

Tom came home from the Iraq war
Every emotion was tattered and torn
He tried to drink his pain away
Everyday for the next two years
His wife cried a bucket of tears
He promised he would change.
Then one day out of the blue
Tom decided he was though with the booze
He knew it's time for a change

These ruts we dig sometimes get deep
Fail to move and you're bound to sink
Once you get moving you can't slow down
But a week seems like forever when you're trying to dig out

For some reason no one can explain
Heather started using crack cocaine
This tragic story begins
Her mom took her back to court and won
She lost everything including her son
But God answers prayers
She's now clean
